Mr James Churchill

James Churchill is an Australian and internationally fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon. He provides general orthopaedic surgical services, with a subspecialty interest in upper limb problems.

James grew up in Wellington, New Zealand. He completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours at the University of Otago, before relocating to Australia to study medicine. James graduated from Medical School at Flinders University in 2006, following which he moved to Victoria.

James completed his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery via the Victoria/Tasmania training program in 2018. Following successful completion, he was awarded fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

James worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Sandringham and Box Hill Hospitals in Melbourne. He carried out a wide variety of elective cases and had extensive experience in trauma surgery.

James then undertook further subspecialty training in shoulder, elbow and wrist surgery in Halifax, Canada, where he had experience treating a wide variety of degenerative and traumatic conditions of the upper limb.

James is enthusiastic about achieving optimum outcomes in his patients. He likes to take time to discuss treatment options with patients and their family members, and involve them in the decision making process.

James is committed to medical education. In his role, he is fortunate to help teach medical students and orthopaedic trainees, as well as general practitioners and allied health professionals.

During his time as a junior doctor, James was fortunate to work in Wangaratta. His time in North East Victoria was instrumental in influencing him to pursue a career in regional Australia. He feels privileged that he has been able to return to Wangaratta with his family to work in the community.

James is married with two young children. He enjoys cycling, playing and building guitars and following an array of local and international sports.

James has a public appointment at Northeast Health Wangaratta, and operates privately at Wangaratta Private Hospital. His consulting rooms are located at the Wangaratta Specialist Centre on Green Street, Wangaratta.
