Dr John Gallagher

Overview

Dr John Gallagher graduated from Queensland University in 1993, commenced his orthopaedic career in 1996, with 30 years orthopaedic surgery experience & for the last 20 years, since 2003, has exclusively cared for knees only.

 

Dr Gallagher completed his registrar training in Queensland under the president of the Australian Knee Society, becoming a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) in 2002. He then went overseas from 2003 - 2006 to undertake a further 3 years of advanced subspecialist training in knee reconstruction and knee replacement surgery, completing 3 prestigious fellowships under the 3 presidents of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM), American Knee Society (AKS) and British Knee Society (BASK). In 2006, Dr Gallagher returned to Brisbane and established the Queensland Knee Surgery Clinic (QKSC), performing all reconstructive and replacement surgeries of the adolescent and adult knee. Since that time, Dr Gallagher and his team of nurses, physiotherapist and clinic staff have assisted over 10,000 patients to date.

 

From 2025, the Queensland Knee Surgery Clinic now focuses solely on patients with arthritic knees requiring knee replacement surgery. Dr Gallagher uses state of the art technology including robotic assistance, computer navigated implant sizing and soft tissue balancing, small incision technique and a rapid rehabilitation protocol to assist patients regain their mobility and flexibility at their optimum speed. Hospital inpatients are usually seen twice daily by both Dr Gallagher and his physiotherapists and after discharging home return to QKSC for continuation of their comprehensive post operative rehabilitation under the supervision of Dr Gallagher, his nurses and in house physiotherapist. The combination of Dr Gallagher’s extensive experience in knee replacement surgery over the last 3 decades, his use of cutting-edge technology along with a well established clinic and theatre team, with staff who have worked together for many years, allows him to offer his patients the benefit of his entire teams experience to assist with their recovery following their knee replacement surgery
