Mr Kenneth 'Ken' Cutbush

Overview

Dr Cutbush was awarded the Gordon-Taylor Medal for the surgical primary examination in 1994. He completed orthopaedic training, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in January 2003. He went on to undertake a year of postgraduate subspecialty fellowship training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in hand and shoulder surgery.

Dr Cutbush received the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia International Travelling Fellowship in 2011, travelling to Europe to visit surgeons in France, Italy, Switzerland and Denmark. He was subsequently accepted as a corresponding member of the European Shoulder Society.

As well as his private appointment at the Brisbane Private Hospital, Dr Cutbush has public appointments in Brisbane at Princess Alexandra Hospital, a university teaching hospital and level one trauma centre, and the Mater Public Hospital; and at Cairns Base Hospital, a major regional public hospital. He is actively involved at the Brisbane Private Hospital as Chairman of the Patient Care Review Committee and as a member of the Brisbane Private Medical Advisory Committee.

Ken is the chief supervisor of two Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) accredited Fellowships in Shoulder Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty, training young Orthopaedic surgeons from overseas and Australia in advanced shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty.

Ken is actively engaged at a state and national level in Australian Surgical Societies. He is a member of the Australian Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Australian Hand Surgery Society. He is the Immediate Past President of the Queensland Hand Surgery Society and Secretary of the Queensland Shoulder Society. He is the Queensland Chairman of the Australian Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Scientific Secretary of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) as well as a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Queensland Regional Committee. As scientific secretary, he is responsible for supervising the teaching programme for the Queensland orthopaedic trainees and convener of the Queensland AOA annual scientific meeting.

The University of Queensland recognised Dr Cutbush for his work teaching medical students and surgical colleagues, his scientific research, and for his contribution through leadership roles appointing him to Associate Professor in 2016. He is actively involved in shoulder research at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and was appointed Adjunct Professor at QUT in 2019.
