Dr Luke Watson
Overview
"As a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, my focus is on restoring both form and function—whether through oncologic reconstruction, microsurgery, or aesthetic procedures. It is my privilege to deliver precise, patient-centred care and innovative surgical solutions to help individuals regain confidence and quality of life."
Dr Luke Watson is a Brisbane-based, Australian-trained specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. His clinical practice focuses on surgical oncology and reconstructive microsurgery, with sub-specialty expertise in skin cancer and melanoma, breast surgery (both aesthetic and reconstructive), microsurgery, and lymphovascular reconstruction.
A Brisbane local, he completed his medical and surgical training in Queensland. Holding consultant appointments in the Departments of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at both the Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital and Mater Hospital Brisbane, he trained as an accredited registrar across several of the state’s major hospitals. His experience includes rotations through the PA Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane, Queensland Children’s Hospital, and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, providing him with a strong foundation in complex reconstructive surgery.
Actively involved in research, he has published work across multiple areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery, including microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, and breast reconstruction. His research has appeared in journals such as ANZ Journal of Surgery, Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, European Journal of Plastic Surgery, and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He continues to collaborate on research projects with the University of Queensland and the PA Hospital.
Beyond surgery, he is committed to medical education and mentorship. As a Lecturer at the UQ Faculty of Medicine, he plays an active role in training the next generation of doctors, supervising medical students, resident medical officers, and specialist registrars. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his young family and staying active through cycling and hiking.
