Prof Mark Ashton

Overview

Mark is clinical Professor of Surgery and Honorary Professor of Anatomy at the University of Melbourne, and Chair of Plastic Surgery at Epworth Freemasons Hospital. He is the former Head of Plastic Surgery at The Royal Melbourne Hospital (2001-2016) and Royal Women’s Hospital (2000-2016), and past President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (2017 – 2019). Mark is the Plastic Surgery Specialty Elected Counsellor to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and currently serve on the Board of Training, and Council, for the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons, The New Zealand Society of Plastic Surgeons, and on the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Mark is a member of the Perioperative Expert Advisory Board for Safer Care Victoria, Department of Health and Human Services advising the Victorian Government on health policy.

Professor Ashton is the co-Editor in Chief of the Australasian Journal of Plastic Surgery and am an Invited Editor for The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal in America. He is an invited Faculty Member of the International Perforator Flap Course in Belgium, Chairman of the Melbourne Advanced Facial Anatomy Course, and member of the London Breast Meeting, and Stockholm Breast meetings.

Professor Ashton is the Director of the Taylor Research Lab within the Anatomy Department of the University of Melbourne, a past Board Member and past Chair of the Surgical Committee for Interplast, a not-for-profit charity providing Plastic Surgery to the Asia Pacific. He has  published eleven book chapters and over 200 articles on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in peer reviewed national and international journals.

 

Mark is a Melbourne specialistic plastic surgeon who has a special interest in breast surgery; reduction mammoplasty (breast reduction), mastopexy (breast lift), breast reconstruction, augmentation mammoplasty (breast augmentation), abdominoplasty, upper blepharoplasty, female rhinoplasty, urogynaecological reconstructive genital surgery and labiaplasty.
