Associate Professor Mark Sheridan

Overview

Associate Professor Mark Sheridan is a senior Australian neurosurgeon with an extensive career in clinical practice, academic leadership, military medicine, and professional governance. A graduate of the University of Sydney (MBBS) and University of Newcastle (MMedSc in Clinical Epidemiology), he completed his neurosurgical training in Sydney and undertook a fellowship in cerebrovascular and complex spine surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, where he also served as a visiting fellow at Cambridge University.

He is currently a Visiting Medical Officer at St George Private Hospital and a Conjoint Appointee at the University of New South Wales. His previous leadership roles include Director of Neurosurgery and Director of Surgery at Liverpool Hospital, Program Director of Surgery for South Western Sydney Local Health District, and Executive Clinical Director. Nationally, he has served as a member of the RACS Court of Examiners, Chair of the Trauma Committee of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, and as an advisor to the Commonwealth Department of Health.

A/Prof Sheridan has been a committed educator, examiner, and course director for both EMST and DSTC, supervising neurosurgical trainees and contributing to curriculum development at UNSW and WSU. His military service includes deployments with the Royal Australian Medical Corps as a Major, consulting in neurosurgery for the ADF.

With over 30 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to major surgical textbooks, A/Prof Sheridan’s academic interests span trauma, cerebrovascular surgery, spine, and healthcare systems improvement. His career exemplifies exceptional service across local, state, and national levels in neurosurgery, education, research, and leadership.
