Dr Michael Mulcahy
Overview
Dr Michael Mulcahy is a Sydney-based neurosurgeon with subspecialty expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery. Following specialist neurosurgical training in Australia, he completed advanced spine fellowships at Westmead Hospital and through the Combined Spine Program at the University of Calgary. These fellowships provided extensive experience in minimally invasive, robotic and endoscopic spine surgery, as well as spinal deformity, trauma, oncology, and complex revision surgery.
Dr Mulcahy holds a Master of Surgery in Neurosurgery from Macquarie University and a Master of Science in Surgical Sciences with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh. He has also completed the AO Global Spine Diploma, an internationally recognised program in comprehensive spine surgery. He has a strong commitment to academic surgery and remains involved in clinical research and the education and mentorship of trainees and junior doctors.
Dr Mulcahy has benefited from the exceptional opportunity to undertake dedicated fellowship training in both robotic and endoscopic spine surgery. His practice combines these advanced techniques with a considered, evidence-based and patient-centred approach to the management of spinal disorders. He also has a particular interest in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery pathways and their potential to improve the patient experience through better preparation for surgery, multimodal pain management, earlier mobilisation, fewer complications, and a faster return to function.
