Dr Ned Kinnear
Overview
Dr Ned Kinnear is a specialist urological surgeon. He is dedicated to understanding his patients and providing high quality care, using the most recent medical research and minimally invasive surgical approaches. He enjoys taking the time to communicate conditions to patients and their families.
He has public appointments at Lyell McEwin Hospital & Modbury Hospital, Adelaide, offering world class care to men and women with urological conditions, with a particular focus on robotic oncology, urethroplasty and implantable devices for incontinence and impotence.
Ned graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery from The University of Adelaide in 2011. He completed Urology training via the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand (USANZ) training scheme, and in 2022 was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Urology). During this time, Ned also conducted research exploring ways to improve care for emergency general surgical and urological patients, a cohort who are often overlooked when funding and staffing hospitals. This led to being awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Surgery) from The University of Adelaide in 2022.
Ned then pursued two international fellowships to obtain further subspecialty training.
Firstly, at the Lister Hospital, United Kingdom, he completed the Royal College of Surgeons of England Robotic Urological Fellowship, honing his skills using the Da Vinci surgical robot for minimally invasive surgery of the prostate and kidney.
Secondly, he was the successful recipient of the Margorie Hooper scholarship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, to undertake the University of Calgary Reconstructive & Functional Urology Fellowship with Alberta Health Services, Canada, where he developed skills in urethroplasty and surgery for erectile dysfunction and male and female urinary incontinence.
Ned is also passionate about medical research to improve patient outcomes. He is an academic titleholder with Adelaide University. He has published widely in the scientific literature, with over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, over 30 presentations at national and international conferences and has received multiple research scholarships from prestigious entities such as the National Health & Medical Research Council, Adelaide University and The Hospital Research Foundation. He enjoys teaching medical students and doctors in training.
Outside of medicine, Ned is passionate about sport, representing Australia at the 2006-2013 World Rowing Championships.
