Mr Paul Gilmore

Overview

Paul Gilmore graduated as a doctor from Leeds University in 1996 before entering into a broad training in surgery and urology. This training included a two year research period at the Cancer Research UK Paterson Institute in Manchester looking into the cellular basis of prostate cancer. This led to obtaining a number of research awards including a research grant from the British Urological Foundation and helped Paul become a “Fellows” Research Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2001. Following a number of research publications, Paul obtained his higher degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) after successfully defending his work before a Manchester University panel of experts. Paul followed his research with higher specialist training in urology, taking his experience to exceptional breadth and depth in all fields of urology. Towards the end of his training in the UK, he specialised more in the treatment of urological stone disease as well as minimally invasive cancer surgery, while continuing to build on his mastery of core urology. This led to the becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in the speciality of urology.

Paul undertook the prestigious Laparoscopic and Robotic Uro-oncology Fellowship with Professor Tony Costello and A/Prof Declan Murphy in Melbourne in 2010, during which time Paul helped perform over 100 robotic assisted radical prostatectomies for prostate cancer as well as continuing to develop his advanced laparoscopic kidney surgical skills. Paul continued his urological career in Australia and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013.

Paul is now Head of Urology at Peninsula Health and has close links with Monash University Medical School, to continue to develop the knowledge of our doctors of the future.
