Professor Nathan Lawrentschuk
Overview
Professor Nathan Lawrentschuk MB, BS, PhD, FRACS (Urology) is a Urological Surgeon and Urologic Oncologist with appointments as clinical and research Professor at the University of Melbourne, Department of Surgery and as Director of Urology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Nathan is the founding Ditrector of the EJ Whitten Prostate Cancer Research Centre at Epworth Healthcare. He also has an appointment at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre , Melbourne. He completed a PhD in kidney cancer as well as completing his training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008 and has completed two additional years of training in robotic, laparoscopic and open cancer surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada at Princess Margaret Hospital, the world’s 5th largest cancer centre. In completing this additional certificate, Nathan has now been accepted as a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology (the peak North American body for urology cancer surgery). Nathan has a special interest in cancer high-risk surgery of the prostate, kidney, bladder and testis as well as being comfortable with active surveillance of many cancers where appropriate. In addition to his additional specialised qualifications, Nathan also completed standard urological training of benign conditions such as benign prostate hyperplasia using Greenlight Laser and kidney stones with laser which he is also happy to treat. He has published over 500 peer reviewed papers and book chapters. He has private practice in the PArkville Precinct and at Epworth Freemasons in East Melbourne. He has previously served as vice-Chairman of the World Urologic Oncology Federation (2015-2018) and remains actively involved with the organisation.
