Dr Sachinka 'Sachin' Ranasinghe

Overview

Dr Sachinka Ranasinghe
Sachin(ka) is a Brisbane based urologist and robotic surgeon who specialises in the care of
prostate cancer, kidney cancer, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) and kidney stones.  He
consults and operates out of Mater Brisbane (public and private) and Mater Springfield
(public and private).

He is one of the few urological surgeons in Australia who is fellowship trained in robotic retroperitoneal
partial nephrectomy, ‘Hood’ technique for robotic prostatectomies, HOLEP and Aquablation.
This subspecialist training enables him to offer patients access to advanced, minimally
invasive treatment options for Prostate Cancer, BPH and Renal/Kidney Cancer.
Sachinka grew up in Brisbane and completed his medical degree at the University of
Queensland in 2015. He completed his specialist urology training across QLD and NSW in
both city and regional areas. In February 2025, he attained Fellowship of the Royal
Australasian College of Surgeons in Urology and membership of the Urological Society of
Australia and New Zealand.

In 2025–2026, he undertook a fellowship in uro-oncology and BPH at Norfolk and Norwich
University Hospital in the United Kingdom. He specialised in robotic surgery (prostate,
bladder and kidney) as well as advanced minimally invasive BPH procedures such as
aquablation, HOLEP, Rezum and Urolift.

He has also completed observerships with world renowned robotic surgeons Dr Alex Mottrie and Dr Ruben De Groote in Belgium, and Dr
Geoff Coughlin, one of Australia’s leading high-volume robotic surgeons.

Sachinka has a passion for teaching junior doctors. He organised Australia’s first Urology Bootcamp in Nepean
Hospital in Sydney for medical students and urology junior doctors, and is an associate lecturer at the Univerisity of
Queensland. He also takes great pride in teaching and doing urology work outside of Australia, having undertaken
surgical outreach programs in Ethiopia and Sri Lanka.

Outside of work, Sachinka enjoys watching and playing all sport (particularly cricket, rugby union/league
and football) and loves to travel (he is hoping to get to 100 countries in his lifetime!).
