Dr Tavis Read
Overview
Dr Tavis Read is an Australian trained specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon located in Brisbane, Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. His clinical practice focuses on surgical oncology and reconstructive microsurgery. He holds dual appointments as a consultant in the Departments of Surgery at the Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital and Mater Hospital Brisbane. Dr Read completed his surgical education and training as an accredited registrar in Brisbane at the PA Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane, Queensland Children’s Hospital, and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and in Melbourne at Austin Health and Peninsula Health. He has completed additional research fellowships in surgical oncology within the Upper GI/Soft Tissue and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Units at the PA Hospital. Prior to this he undertook his internship and residency through the PA Hospital.
Dr Read is passionate about the investigation and treatment of skin cancer and soft tissue malignancies. He completed a PhD through the University of Queensland (UQ) investigating the clinical management of cutaneous melanoma, which was conferred in 2020. The focus of this research was the evaluation of treatments, rationalisation of management strategies and implementation of novel therapeutics for patients with advanced locoregional melanoma. He has secured a number of competitive research grants and has an ongoing commitment to research with collaborative projects through both UQ and the PA Hospital. Dr Read has a strong interest in education and holds the title of Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland. He has an active role in the supervision of medical students, resident medical officers and specialists-in-training (registrars).
