• Mr William Poate

    Mr Poate was a keen early advocate of the development of breast reconstruction after mastectomy and was the first to establish a full-time plastic surgery service at a non-teaching peripheral public hospital - in Hornsby in 1966.

    Mr Poate dedicates this grant to the memory of his father, Sir Hugh Raymond Guy Poate (1884-1961) MVO, FRACS. Sir Hugh was a renowned thyroid surgeon and a former President of RACS from 1945-1947.

  • Activity

    The grant may fund travel, accommodation, conference and course fees to further plastic and reconstructive training and experience.

    Please note, the activity for which funding is being sought must commence after the grant application closing date but prior to the end of the following year (the grant year). 

  • Application requirements

    Your application is to include:
    - your career and employment details
    - your activity proposal including details of your proposed activity, host organisation (if applicable), activity dates, expected outcomes, how your activity will benefit your professional development and contribute to improving Australian and/or Aotearoa New Zealand surgical standards and knowledge base and your proposed budget.

  • Selection and payment

    Selection
    Written applications will be reviewed by members of the Scholarship and Grant Committee.

    Payment
    Payment is made directly to the recipient in one instalment by 1 March in the grant year (following receipt of a valid invoice which will be requested by the Scholarships and Grants Team).

  • Recipient obligations

    All grant recipients will be required to provide an activity report at the end of the grant year when requested by the Scholarships and Grants Team.

    Applications are submitted via the Scholarships and Grants Program online platform, RACS Unlock, hosted by Survey Monkey Apply.

    You may register as an applicant on RACS Unlock at any time, however you will be unable to apply until the Learning and Development Program application opening date. There is no need to re-register if you already have a RACS Unlock registration.
