New Zealand Board of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Membership of the New Zealand Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Overview

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the principal body for the training and education of surgeons in Australia and New Zealand. Accreditation is given by the Australian Medical Council to RACS and standards for education and training are established by RACS.

Supervision of the Surgical Education and Training (SET) program for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) is the responsibility of the New Zealand Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (the Board). The Board is a committee of RACS and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of SET in PRS. The Board carries out these responsibilities through the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons (NZAPS) office.

The SET program in PRS is designed to provide Trainees with clinical and operative experience in order to learn special methods of investigation and become competent in techniques related to the discipline. At the conclusion of the SET training program it is expected that Trainees will be able to perform as independent practitioners, meeting the requirements of all identified RACS competencies.
