RACS Victoria Preparation for Practice Workshop 2023

The Victorian State Committee recently delivered its annual Preparation for Practice course on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July 2023. This two-day workshop is designed to provide Younger Fellows and Trainees with an overview of all the areas to consider when setting up their private practice.

This is a comprehensive course with topics including billing, building a practice administration team, financial management, legal responsibilities, working with private hospitals, and building a referral base.

We also included a new component relevant to any member, understanding cyber responsibilities, which included a presentation from the Department of Home Affairs, Cyber and Infrastructure Security Outreach branch. Concerningly, we learnt that Healthcare is one of the most targeted industries for cyber-attacks/hacks. We heard from Melissa Tan, Partner, Lander & Rogers and Cyber Security Lawyer of the Year, and Mark Luckin, Lockton, discussing methods to protect your practice and your responsibilities to your patients, partners, and brand.

With so many fantastic speakers, the feedback has been excellent. Thank you to Dr Patrick Lo and Dr Mariolyn Raj for convening this course, Dr Nicole Yapp and Dr Michael Law for again providing their insightful presentations, and Dr Eric Levi, who joined us for the first time on the critical topic of choosing to use (or choosing not to use) Social Media and Self Care.

Also, a big thank you to our excellent industry presenters and sponsors for their continued support - Bongiorno, Avant, Zaparas Lawyers, Ramsay Health and Healthscope, Genie Solutions, Rooms with Style, Med Health, MIPS and Prescribe Practice Management.
