• The Clinical Director of Orthopaedic will provide expert clinical leadership and oversight to ensure the delivery of high performing orthopaedic surgery and trauma services, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. • The Clinical Director of Orthopaedic Surgery will collaborate with the Executive Director Bundaberg to strategically plan and deliver an effective and efficient orthopaedic service for Bundaberg and Hospital catchment area. The Clinical Director of Orthopaedic Surgery role encompasses all the roles described in the CanMEDs framework. Townsville University Hospital is seeking a motivated Trauma Fellow to join the Trauma Connect Project, an initiative aimed at strengthening trauma capability across North Queensland. As the region’s Major Trauma Service, TUH provides tertiary Neurosurgical, Cardiothoracic, Hepatobiliary and Paediatric care, offering broad exposure to complex multisystem trauma.
About the role
Working closely with senior clinicians, including the Trauma Clinical Lead, you will contribute to coordinated and longitudinal trauma care across the North Queensland catchment. This joint clinical and research role includes:
• Delivering high quality trauma care within a multidisciplinary environment
• Supporting the Trauma Connect Project through education, case review, clinical liaison and service improvement
• Contributing to trauma research and participating in regional capability building
• Strengthening trauma pathways across prehospital, retrieval, inpatient and rehabilitation settings
This position may suit candidates wishing to maintain a concurrent specialty role. A minimum 0.50 FTE commitment is required, with flexibility depending on scope and training needs.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
• Be eligible for membership of FRACS, FANZCA, FACEM, FCICM or an equivalent specialty involved in trauma care
• Demonstrate strong clinical capability in acute care and multisystem trauma management
• Have an interest in trauma research, service development and improving trauma care in regional and remote settings
• Value collaborative practice and multidisciplinary teamwork
• Be motivated to develop advanced trauma skills and contribute to system level improvement
Mandatory Requirements:

• MBBS or equivalent
• Current registration or eligibility for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia

To participate in the provision, development, and maintenance of an effective, efficient, and equitable clinical service to hospital clients.
Time in the Department will present the opportunity to enhance your Orthopaedic knowledge and develop skills while contributing invaluably to the provision of patient care as a member of the MHHS Orthopaedic team.
The Department caters for a population of approximately 180,000, in addition to interstate and international tourists. The Orthopaedic Department performs approximately 2,300 theatre procedures per year – of which there are 1,500 emergency procedures. The Outpatients Department has approx 80 patients in the Fracture Clinic and 50 new patients in the Orthopaedic clinic in one week.
Mackay Hospital and Health Service has 6 hospitals, 2 multi-purpose health services and 4 community health centres that employ more than 3,700 staff.
