Who can apply?
To be eligible for this grant you must be one of the following:
- RACS Younger Fellow*
- FRACS applicantAND
- plan to return to practice in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand following the grant activity.
*RACS Younger Fellows are defined as obtaining Fellowship within the past ten years.

Activity
The grant may be used to fund travel, accommodation and living expenses for the recipient to study and gain clinical experience overseas.
Please note, the activity for which funding is being sought must commence after the grant application closing date but prior to the end of the following year (the grant year).

Application requirements
Your application is to include:
- your career and employment details
- your activity proposal including details of your activity, host organisation (if applicable), how your activity will benefit your professional development and contribute to improving Australian and/or Aotearoa New Zealand surgical standards and knowledge base, activity dates, the expected outcomes of your activity and your proposed budget. -
Selection and payment
Selection
Applications will be reviewed by representatives of the Younger Fellows Committee and may include representatives from the Scholarships and Grants Committee. Selection will be based on the applicant’s ability to demonstrate the benefits of their proposal to the surgical community in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Should two applicants be equally suitable, preference will be given to those who are in their earlier post-Fellowship years, have secured appointments to established units and have not secured alternative financial support.Awarding
Payment is made directly to the recipient in one instalment by 1 March in the grant year (following receipt of a valid invoice which will be requested by the Scholarships and Grants Team). -
Recipient obligations
Upon completion of the grant, the recipient is required to:
- return to practice in Australia or New Zealand
- if asked, present a brief descriptive paper (5-10 minutes) at the Younger Fellows Committee meeting at the Annual Scientific Congress (ASC)
- be actively involved in the Younger Fellows Committee or other RACS activities
- provide an activity report when requested by the Scholarships and Grants Team. -

You may register as an applicant on RACS Unlock at any time, however you will be unable to apply until the Learning and Development Program application opening date. There is no need to re-register if you already have a RACS Unlock registration.
