Who can apply?
To be eligible for this grant, you need to be one of the following:
- RACS Fellow who is an early-career neurosurgeon*
- Specialist International Medical Graduate (SIMG) in neurosurgery
- SET Trainee specialising in neurosurgery
- overseas-based early-career non-RACS neurosurgeon who is registered to practice in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand.*an early career neurosurgeon is defined as within 10 years of neurosurgery qualification.
International applicants cannot have commenced travel or arrived in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand prior to the closing date for applications. -
Activity
Your activity is to benefit your educational and research abilities and contribute to improving neurosurgery in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand.
This grant has a minimum tenure period of three months.
Please note, the activity for which funding is being sought must commence after the grant application closing date but prior to the end of the following year (the grant year).

Selection and payment
Selection
Written applications will be reviewed by members of the executive committee of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia. Preference may be given to applicants who are earlier in their neurosurgery careers and to those who currently live in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand.Payment
Payment is made directly to the recipient in one instalment by 1 March in the grant year (following receipt of a valid invoice which will be requested by the Scholarships and Grants Team). -
Recipient obligationsAll grant recipients will be required to provide an activity report at the end of the grant year when requested by the Scholarships and Grants Team.
Recipients are encouraged to submit an abstract, and if successful, to present their research at the annual meeting of the Surgical Research Society of Australasia (or an agreed equivalent) at least once during, or in the 12 months following, the grant period.

To applyApplications are submitted via the Scholarships and Grants Program online platform, RACS Unlock, hosted by Survey Monkey Apply.
You may register as an applicant on RACS Unlock at any time, however you will be unable to apply until the Learning and Development Program application opening date. There is no need to re-register if you already have a RACS Unlock registration.
