Medical registration
Medical registration in Australia
The registration and accreditation of health professionals is overseen by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
AHPRA supports the 14 National Boards that are responsible for regulating the health professions. The National Board that manages registration of surgeons is the Australian Medical Board.
The primary role of the National Boards is to protect the public and set standards and policies that all registered health practitioners must meet.
An applicant assessed by the AMC and RACS and deemed either partially comparable or substantially comparable, can apply for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Information for IMGs is available on the Medical Board of Australia website at the link below.
