RACS Māori Health Medal

The RACS Māori Health Medal is an annual award to acknowledge significant contributions by Fellows to Māori health advocacy and health outcomes in New Zealand.

The RACS Māori Health Medal acknowledges significant contributions by Fellows to Māori health advocacy and health outcomes in New Zealand.

The award is designed to:

Acknowledge and value the tremendous work that has been done by Fellows in Māori health care and advocacy
Acknowledge that Māori health has common yet distinct needs requiring locally specific responses
Acknowledge and value an individual's contribution by their peers
Inspire and encourage new engagement by the Fellowship in efforts to deliver better health outcomes for Māori communities
Inform and reinforce the College's strong position on and on-going commitment to Māori health
Promote the College's engagement in Māori health and celebrate our achievements thus far

The Awards will normally be presented at the Annual Scientific Congress (ASC).

Registration costs for the recipients will be paid by the Indigenous Health Committee for the ASC at which the presentations are made. Travel and Accommodation are at the recipient's own expense.

Criteria for award

The award is made to a Fellow who has demonstrated excellence through leadership, practice, advocacy, community engagement, education or research of lasting and significant contribution to Māori Health.

Eligibility

The awards are open to all Fellows and the nomination may come from any individual Fellow, surgical society, regional committee, the Indigenous Health Committee, or the Māori community in New Zealand.

Nominations

Nominations for a RACS Māori Health Medal shall be made in writing to the Chair of the Indigenous Health Committee. The nomination shall contain a curriculum vitae and details of how the nominee meets the criteria for the award. Nominations without this information will be returned to the nominator for further documentation.

Nominations can either be forwarded via email, attaching the relevant documents or mailed to the Secretariat at the address below.

Nominations accepted until Friday, 31 January 2020.

The Indigenous Health Committee will consider all nominations and recommend to the Professional Development and Standards Board to whom the medal should be awarded.
