Category – Education/Research/Clinical Performance

Established in 2013 The Newton Surgical Education Medal was created in memory of the late Sir Alan Newton in order to recognise a distinguished and substantial contribution to surgical education over a prolonged period of time.

The individual can be nominated by the Chair of the Professional Development Committee or two Councillors. Approval by three quarters of Councillors present and voting must be received.

Criteria for the Sir Alan Newton Surgical Education Medal are:

  1. Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
  2. Demonstrated leadership in the College and/or health care organisations related to surgical education.
  3. Significant contributions to the body of knowledge on surgical education.
  4. Role models the professional characteristics of a surgical educator.
  5. Has displayed substantial dedication of time and effort to surgical education over a prolonged period of time.
