Horizon scanning
Horizon scanning reports examine 'early stage' or 'emerging' health technologies and services. These reports are typically commissioned prior to their widespread adoption. Horizon scanning reports enable decision makers to understand the likely uptake of a technology of service, and are often used to determined whether further assessments or monitoring or is required.
Latest horizon scanning report:
Endovascular arteriovenous fistula creation systems, March 2017.
Rapid review
Modifications can be made in at least one of the following areas; search strategy, inclusion criteria, assessment of study quality and/or data analysis. Each refinement narrows in on the specific clinical question the review is designed to answer.
Latest rapid review:
Endovascular arteriovenous fistula creation systems, March 2017.
Systematic reviews
Systematic reviews are the most comprehensive reports used in Health Technology Assessment. Systematic reviews provide significant examinations and thorough answers to enable health professionals, consumers and policy makers to make informed decisions.
Latest Systematic Review:
Chondroitin sulphate in Osteoarthritis, March 2019.
Training Programs
The objective of the R&E ASERNIPS Training Program is to examine the HTA continuum; from the nomination of a service or technology, to the development recommendations for the local health care setting. Attendees will gain the core skills necessary to assess the safety, clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of surgical procedures and medical devices. The program covers:
- the HTA process and HTA products
- protocol development for a HTA project
- conducting searches for the peer-reviewed and grey literature to identify and retrieve evidence
- how to appraise evidence for quality and bias
- how to conduct/review an HTA report of a surgical service or medical device; including how to interpret meta-analyses and results from cost-effectiveness studies
- the application of multi-criteria decision analysis for prioritisation of technologies for assessment and approval
- an understanding of evidence-based funding for surgical services and medical devices
