Paediatric Surgery Program
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the
principal body for the training and education of surgeons in
Australia and New Zealand. Accreditation is given by the
Australian Medical Council, on behalf of the Medical Board of
Australia, and the Medical Council of New Zealand to conduct
training and education of surgeons in all specialties in Australia
and New Zealand.
RACS Board of Paediatric Surgery has oversight of the Paediatric
Surgery Surgical Education and Training (SET) program, reporting to
the Board of Surgical Education and Training.
The Paediatric Surgery SET training program is designed to provide
trainees with clinical and operative experience in order to learn
special methods of investigation and become competent in techniques
related to the discipline. At the conclusion of training it is
expected that trainees will be able to perform as independent
practitioners, meeting the requirements of all identified RACS
SET applications closed for 2020 intake
Applications to the Paediatric Surgery Surgical Education
and Training (SET) program in 2019 for the 2020 intake is closed.
The Board of Paediatric Surgery will not be accepting SET
applications in 2019 for the 2020 intake into Paediatric
The training program is at maximum capacity and as a result of
the high demand for the program there are limited SET posts
available in the next year for Trainees.
The Board of Paediatric Surgery appreciates that this is very
disappointing for the many deserving applicants, however, please
don't be discouraged, the SET program in Paediatric Surgery is
competency based, and time spent in surgery will benefit applicants
in Paediatric Surgery in the future.
