Overview 

Trainees in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Education and Training (SET) program are required to pass the CSSP Examination by the end of SET 4 and/or within four attempts. The purpose of the CSSP Examination is to ensure that trainees are equipped with knowledge of the basic sciences relevant to Cardiothoracic Surgery early in their program. 

Please note that registration for this exam closes at 11.59am (AEDT) on the closing date stipulated, late registrations will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Prepare

This area provides guidance on what to study for the examination.

Sitting the exam

Candidates are required to arrive at the examination venue at least 30 minutes prior to the examination start time with photo identification. The multiple choice question (MCQ) examination is delivered electronically.

Results

Candidates are advised via their RACS portfolio and email of their examination result. A pass or fail result only is awarded for the examination. The MCQ examination result will be advised approximately four weeks after the examination has taken place by email. Candidates who are successful in the written component will be invited to attend the anatomy viva. Results from the anatomy viva will be advised approximately one week after the examination.
