FRACS: the mark of surgical excellence and trust
FRACS stands for Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Surgeons who hold the FRACS post-nominal have completed specialist training and assessment that meets rigorous professional, ethical and clinical standards. They also have a strong commitment to the surgical profession through continued RACS membership, adherence to the Code of Conduct and to lifelong learning through the maintenance of Continuing Professional Development.
For patients, seeing “FRACS” after a surgeon’s name is reassurance that they are in safe, highly qualified hands.
What FRACS represents
- Rigorous education and training.
- Surgical competence and lifelong learning.
- Ethical conduct and patient safety.
- An internationally recognised standard.
The FRACS designation is recognised internationally and reflects the trust placed in RACS – by governments, regulators, patients and the community – as the body responsible for maintaining standards of surgical excellence in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Using the FRACS brand
We encourage Fellows of the College who meet the rigorous criteria required to hold the FRACS post-nominal, to highlight their professional credentials and strengthen trust with patients by downloading the FRACS logo and branding to use on business cards, letterheads, e-signatures, websites and practice signage.
