Census of Fellows

RACS performs a regular Census. A Census is an important tool to:

  • assist the College in its workforce planning advocacy;
  • provide additional information regarding a myriad of factors affecting surgeons in their day to day work, and
  • allow the College to build a picture of the challenges facing the surgical workforce and to advocate strongly with governments for solutions.

The following reports provide a snapshot of Australia and New Zealand's surgical workforce and their services:

  • 2020 Surgical Workforce Census Report (PDF 917.93KB)
  • 2018 Surgical Workforce Census Report (PDF 874.97KB)
  • 2016 Surgical Workforce Census Report (PDF 797.85KB)
  • 2014 Surgical Workforce Census Report (PDF 366.83KB)

For earlier reports, please contact the Manager - Fellowship Services at the contact below.

Workforce Reports

RACS undertakes analysis of surgical workforce data to assist with planning advocacy.

  • Surgical workforce projections to 2025 (Vol 1 - The Australian Workforce) 2011 (PDF 1.28MB)
