Australian application process - specialist and/or AoN assessment pathway
Overview of the application process for the Specialist or Area of Need Assessment pathway.
Application Process
If you wish to work as a specialist surgeon in Australia you are required to:
- Apply directly to Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduate's (ECFMG) Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (EPIC) for verification of both primary and specialist qualification(s);
- Complete an Australian Medical Council (AMC) online application to establish an AMC portfolio and then;
- Apply to RACS for a Specialist and/or Area of Need (AoN) assessment. It is important that you have applied to the ECFMG for EPIC verification before you apply to RACS for specialist and/or AoN assessment.
For more information on the EPIC verification process go to the Australian Medical Council website at the link below.
The application and assessment processes for Specialist Assessment and/or AoN Assessments are the same; however AoN applications have additional documentation about AoN positions.
