RACS Global Health is committed to transparency and continuous improvement through systematic reflection and learning. Learning Papers are a key tool to support organisational reflection and promote opportunities to improve program effectiveness.

This Learning Paper – Lessons from the Pacific Island Program (PDF 2.19MB) is intended as the first in a series of papers designed to showcase program learnings and contribute to the ongoing conversation around what works in global health and surgical development programming.

RACS Global Health recognizes that gender influences the experience of health care, affecting affordability, access to and use of services and interactions with healthcare providers.  Gender also impacts admission to training opportunities, renumeration and development across the healthcare workforce.  This learning paper (PDF 850.7KB) examines the issues and RACS GH commitment to globally equitable programs.

In 2020, RACS Global Health commissioned an independent mid-term review of the Pacific Islands Program (PIP). This Learning Paper (PDF 2.19MB) draws on findings from the mid-term review and discusses opportunities to strengthen the implementation of the PIP. Key findings highlight the value of the PIP for Pacific surgeons and other health workers, as well as opportunities to increase the PIP’s impact by extending training support to surgical nurses and increasing opportunities for online learning.
