Applying for an exam and information about registration

Information about applying for the Clinical Examination (CE).

Who can apply?

February and June examinations

Examinations in February and June are open to both:
Surgical and Training (SET) trainees
Pre-vocational doctors who have passed the Generic Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE)

SET trainees will be prioritised for the February and June examinations.

October examinations

The October sitting of the Clinical examination is restricted to Pre-vocational doctors only. 

Please contact your Specialty Training Board to confirm your eligibility.

SET trainees are ineligible to register for the October sitting unless their Training Board provides a written request.

Registration information

All applications must be made through eHub the online registration form.

Registrations will NOT be accepted outside of the advertised registration period, there are no exceptions.

There are limited spots available and we are not able to hold spots for any reasons. 

Confirmation of registration

Candidates should check the portal for confirmation of registration. If you cannot see the examination you have registered for, please contact the Examinations department as soon as possible.

  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that they have successfully registered for the examination. Late applications will not be accepted.
  • If you are unsure that your application has been successful, it is your responsibility to contact the Examinations department within the registration period to confirm.
  • If you are a SET trainee and you were not able to register, please contact the Examinations department immediately.

Payment information

Payment is required in full at the time of registering for the exam.

Applicants must make sure that funds for the full examination fee are available on the credit card supplied as this will be charged immediately.

No other payment options are available.

When to apply

Please see the exam Dates and locations page for details and dates for registering for the Clinical examination.

Applications will open and close at 12.00 midday AEST time on the specified day. Late registrations will not be accepted under any circumstances.

How to apply

 To register click on the 'Apply Now' button which will appear on the blue ribbon at the top of the main Clinical Examination page when registrations open.

Important information

Please note: for logistical reasons, there are limited spots available per sitting of the Clinical examination.

It is recommended that candidates register early to avoid disappointment.
