Eligibility
Candidates registering for the Clinical Examination (CE) must have passed the Generic Surgical Sciences Examination (GSSE).
The CE is no longer a requirement for all SET (Surgical Education and Training) Programmes. SET Trainees must check with their Specialist Training Board as to whether they are required to sit the CE.
Similarly some SET programs have mandated the CE as a selection criteria for SET selection in 2021 for the 2022 Training Year. Prevocational candidates are advised to check with the relevant SET training program about the exact timing and requirements for their desired SET program.
It is the responsibility of the candidate to check with the relevant authority as to the requirement to sit the Clinical Examination.
Changes to the RACS Clinical Examination (CE)
2023 SET Selection (for the 2024 intake) & 2024 SET Selection (for the 2025 intake) – successful completion of the CE is dependent on the specialty. Some SET programs have mandated the CE as a selection criteria for SET selection in 2022 for the 2023 Training Year. Candidates are advised to check with their relevant SET training program about the requirements for their desired SET program. As noted above, it is the responsibility of the candidate to check with the relevant authority as to the requirement to sit the Clinical Examination.
