Trauma training, education & research
Overview
The importance of education in trauma care was recognised in 1988 with the establishment in Australasia of the Early Management in Severe Trauma (EMST) course, now mandatory for all surgical Trainees. The College also cooperates with the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) to develop the Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC) course, strongly recommended for all surgeons involved in the management of major trauma.
The Damian McMahon Trauma Research Travel Grant for Trainees is awarded to the best trauma research paper presented by a Trainee at the RACS Annual Scientific Congress.
