ASSET: Australia and New Zealand Surgical Skills Education and Training

Current Trainees:
The ASSET course remains a mandatory training requirement for all Trainees currently on the SET program in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Future Trainees (2027 and beyond):
Trainees selected for SET training starting in 2027 will not be required to complete the ASSET course.

Upcoming Changes:
This change will be officially reflected in the Training Regulations once the curriculum rewrite is completed and the updated Training Regulations are approved.

CCrISP® and ATLS (formally known as EMST) Courses:

These courses are no longer mandatory training requirements for all Trainees currently on the SET program in Cardiothoracic Surgery as completion of these courses is now a prerequisite of SET Selection.

This change will be officially reflected in the Training Regulations once the curriculum rewrite is completed and the updated Training Regulations are approved.
