Overview

The Scholarship and Grant Committee (formerly the Australia & New Zealand Scholarships & Grant Committee) is the RACS body that oversees the Scholarship and Grant Program. The Specialist Surgical Training Boards of the following are all represented:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery
  • Paediatric Surgery
  • Urology
  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Orthopaedic Surgery

The Committee also has a representative from the Academic Surgery Section, International Engagement Committee and Military Surgery. The Chair of the Board of Research, Audit and Academic Surgery and the RACS Censor in Chief are ex officio members.

Objectives

The objectives of the Scholarship and Grant Committee are:

  • to foster a research milieu within RACS
  • to increase the research profile of RACS among Fellows, Trainees and the wider community
  • to be accountable to RACS Council for reporting on any research related policy or matters
  • to develop and review policy relating to research
  • to ensure fiscal responsibility in maintenance of scholarship bequests
  • to take an active role in directing research funding.
