Selection regulations

OHNS SET Selection Regulations New Zealand (PDF 469KB)

These regulations are applicable for the 2026 intake conducted during 2025 only. These regulations may be changed from year to year and cannot be relied on for selection intakes conducted in future years for the Surgical Education and Training Program in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Any regulations for the SET Program from any previous years are not applicable and cannot be relied on for meeting the SET Program requirements for the 2026 intake unless specifically stated in the current regulations.

Application Closing Date

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 27 March 2025 5:00pm AEDT (3:00 pm NZDT). Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.

Semi-structured interview

Date of interviews: Friday 6 June 2025
Date invitations to interview sent: 10 business days

The interviews for Aotearoa New Zealand applicants will be held in Wellington, or, if travel restrictions are in place, online.

Applicants invited to interview will be required to provide identification.

Announcement of offers

Announcement of offers to successful applicants will be made by 7 November 2025.

Feedback to both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be made in accordance with the Selection to Surgical Education and Training Policy (PDF 227.92KB)

Past offers

In 2017 four* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2018.
In 2018 three* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2019.
in 2019 three* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2020.
In 2020 six* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2021.
In 2021 five* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2022.
In 2022 five* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2023.
In 2023 three* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2024.

*Includes deferred offers.
