These Regulations are applicable for the 2026 intake conducted during 2025 only.

Current version: 3.0 (previous versions should be disregarded)

 

Selection Regulations may be changed from year to year and cannot be relied on for the intakes conducted in future years for the SET Program. Any regulations for the SET Program from any previous years are not applicable and cannot be relied on for meeting the SET Program requirements for the 2026 intake unless specifically stated in the Selection Regulations.

The Cardiothoracic Surgery Training Committee and its staff will not enter into any form of advice, pre-scoring or interpretation of the Regulations outside of the formal application and scoring process.    

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Selection Initiative

The Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery implemented the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Selection Initiative policy in the 2018 Selection Process. Please refer to the Selection Regulations for further details.

2025 Registration and Application Dates

Registration Opens: 12 noon (AEDT) - Tuesday, 7 January 2025

Registration Closes: 12 noon (AEDT) - Friday, 31 January 2025

Applications Open: 12 noon (AEDT) - Wednesday, 19 February 2025

Applications Close: 12 noon (AEDT) - Thursday 27 March 2025

 

Applicants are responsible for ensuring their application is complete and correct at the time of submission.

Once an application is submitted, it cannot be changed.

Semi-structured interviews

Date of interview: TBD but most likely to occur in June 2025

RACS Adelaide office

Announcement of offers

Announcement of offers to successful applicants will be made by the end of July 2025. Any final offers will be made by 7 November 2025.

Past offers

In 2018 three (3)* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2019.
In 2019 thirteen (13)* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2020.
In 2020 there was no selection process
In 2021 six (6)* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2022.
In 2022 seven (7)* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2023.
In 2023 six (6)* Trainees were appointed into the SET Program to commence in 2024.
In 2024 nine (9)* Trainees were appointed in the SET Program to commence in 2025.
